K Ramachandra Rao IPS is southern range police chief

MYSORE: Southern police range on Thursday got a new head in K Ramachandra Rao, a 1993-IPS batch officer.

Rao assumed charge as the 13th head of the range comprising five districts of Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Hassan and Kodagu. A S N Murthy was earlier holding the post since two years.

Previously, Rao was serving as the commissioner to Hubli-Dharwad. Rao, a science PG holder from Guntur (Andhra Pradesh), was selected in early 1990s, and his first posting was at Davanagere as assistant superintendent of police. He served as SP at Koppal, Chikmagalur, Gulbarga and Kodagu and as DIG at Police Training College (Gulbarga) and KSRP (Bangalore) before being promoted as IGP and posted as commissioner (Hubli-Dharwad) about 20 months ago.

After taking charge, Rao said he will expect his subordinates to be transparent in work and to work in tandem. "Problems won't come in the way of police officers if they work to protect the interests of poor people," he said, adding that his priority is to strengthen police-public relationship.
